    • Vegan Sour Cream
    • Fresh Lime
    • Fresh Cilantro
    • Fresh Garlic
    • Sea Salt
    • Black Pepper

Please refer to the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients and detailed instructions.

    How to Make Avocado Crema

Here’s a step-by-step guide to making the best avocado cilantro lime crema:

All ingredients in a food processor.

    1. Place ingredients in a food processor or blender.

Ingredients partially blended in food processor.

    2. Scrape down the sides and add water as needed.

Ingredients fully blended and green in a food processor.

    3. Blend until completely smooth.

Avocado cream transferred to a glass bowl with a blue spatula mixing in the salt and pepper.

    4. Add salt and pepper to taste.

    Notes

Keep it chunky - If you want a more guac-like dip, skip the blending and just mash the avocado with a fork!

Thin it out - To make a thinner sauce for drizzling over tacos, rice bowls, or salads, add an extra tablespoon or two of water when blending until the crema reaches your desired consistency. The amount of water you need to add depends on the size of your avocado.

Add some spice - This dip is relatively mild as is, so if you want to kick it up a notch, add some jalapeño when blending.

    Ways to Serve

This creamy avocado sauce brings every dish up a notch with its cilantro lime flavors!

    • On Tacos - Thin out the cream sauce with a bit extra water and drizzle it over blackened tofu tacos.
    • Buddha Bowls - Add this sauce to lemon quinoa or rice bowls along with some black beans and pico.
    • In Burritos - If you’re a fan of guacamole, you must try adding this avocado sauce to your go-to homemade vegan burritos!
    • As a Salad Dressing - Thin out the sauce with extra water to make a delicious avocado lime salad dressing.
    • With Chips - Dip chickpea tortilla chips into this vegan crema for an easy and delicious appetizer.
    • On Nachos - Take loaded vegan potato nachos up a notch with this creamy sauce.

    Storage

Cilantro lime crema is best enjoyed the same day it is made!

But, if you have some sauce left over, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.

Squeeze a bit of lime or lemon juice on top of the crema and then add a piece of plastic wrap. This helps prevent the avocado from oxidizing, which is why it turns brown… and who doesn’t love a little extra lime?

    Notes

See more expert tips, pictures, and variations above for making the best vegan avocado crema with cilantro and lime!
    Yield: about 1 cup
    Serving Size: about ¼ cup
    Ingredient Notes:
    • If you aren't a fan of cilantro, you can leave it out! The crema will taste just as delicious without it.
    • I recommend using fresh lime juice, but bottled juice works as well. If you prefer, you can swap the lime for lemon.
    • Instead of a garlic clove, you can use ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.
    • I tested this recipe with Kite Hill sour cream; another type of creamy dip, like vegan Greek yogurt, should also work.
Storage: Store leftover crema in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. To prevent the avocado from browning squeeze a bit of lime or lemon juice on top of the crema and then add a layer of plastic wrap.
